Creating Youth Business Initiatives

The CYBI opportunity is available to participants in NEIS. In this case you must have created a detailed business plan as part of the Certificate in Small Business delivered by NEIS.

CYBI also offers a program for young people eligible to receive, or receiving, some form of income support. In this case the business training is designed to enable a sound business plan to be developed by the participant.

You must apply to the CYBI Committee to join the CYBI Program. For your convenience, an application form is available on this web site where you can complete your details.

The committee will assess your application and, based on a viable business plan, will let you know whether you have been accepted.

To receive NEIS Allowance, your business must:

  • be a new business that has not operated previously on a commercial basis;
  • be independent, reputable and legal;
  • not duplicate an existing business - unless an unsatisfied demand for your product/service can be shown, or you can provide the product or service in a new way; and
  • not involve the purchase or take-over of an existing business.

The program is formally supported by the the ACT Government, the Foundation for Young Australians and the Commonwealth Department of Employment and Workplace Relations. The majority of Private sector supporters (and there are many) give their valuable time voluntarily.
